In a testament to perseverance and passion, Darol Tulia recently celebrated a significant milestone in his life by graduating with a trade certificate in mobile crane operation. Tulia, a 30-year-old from Southern Highlands Province, originally embarked on his academic journey in Auckland, New Zealand, where he earned a degree in business studies. Despite his solid educational background, Tulia's heart was set on a different path. His fascination with machinery and a desire to work with his hands led him to pivot towards operating mobile cranes.

The graduation ceremony, held on August 22 at Mapex Training Institute, saw Tulia among 301 graduates who received their certificates. His commitment to balancing studies and work was evident, as he managed to juggle attending classes in the morning with working in the afternoons. His role at Paradise Building System, where he supervises logistics and civil works, provided him with practical experience that complemented his academic pursuits.
Tulia's story is one of resilience. "In order to be successful, you have to sacrifice," he reflects. His relentless drive and disciplined approach to his goals, including making the most of his days off to focus on obtaining his certificate, highlight his determination. Tulia emphasizes that success requires more than just following a set path; it demands exploration and a willingness to step outside one's comfort zone.
Born to a mother from Upper-Mendi and a father from Pangia, Tulia is the youngest of seven siblings. His journey of self-discovery led him to realize his passion for machinery and civil work. "I fell in love with machines and the equipment," he shares. "It took me a few years to discover what I truly enjoyed, but that process of exploration was crucial."
Looking ahead, Tulia plans to further his studies in civil work, with the aim of contributing to Papua New Guinea's economic development. His advice to others is clear: "Do what you are passionate about, and keep going. It all comes down to yourself. If you are determined to achieve something, put your mindset and everything into it."
