Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea has launched a number of potato and poultry pilot projects to create agri-business opportunities in their host communities, the company stated via social media post.

The Mine’s Community Development team delivered 840 kilos of stock feed to farmers at Nauti, Winima, and Kuembu villages as part of a pilot poultry project. Poultry supplies include feeding troughs, drinking troughs, and lamps.
Through a partnership with Fresh Produce Agency, 1 400 kilos of potato seed has also been provided to farmers from Nauti and Winima.
To support the local farmers, the team taught farmers potato planting techniques, chemical handling, and fertiliser application, and provided them with additional knowledge and skills to enable their projects are as successful as possible.
Under the coffee projects the farmers in Winima and Nauti continue to excel. Projected sales this season should see coffee sales from these projects exceed K250 000 since inception.
