PNG University Students Join Labour Mobility Program for Australia Jobs

Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment (PNG UNRE) graduates and final-year students have been given a new pathway to employment abroad through the PNG Labour Mobility Program.

In a pilot initiative, four final-year Animal Science students and one graduate were selected this week to work with DA Hall Poultry in Australia. The recruitment marks the beginning of a partnership between the University and the PNG Labour Mobility Unit, creating opportunities for students to gain overseas experience.

A team from the PNG Labour Mobility Unit and executives from DA Hall Poultry visited the University to discuss long-term collaboration for training and employment placements in Australia and New Zealand. Out of ten shortlisted students, five were interviewed by the Gazelle District Labour Mobility team at the Gazelle International Hotel.

Pro Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Development, Dr. Livingstone Tavul, commended the initiative, describing it as a significant milestone for the University. He said the program aligns with PNG UNRE’s goal to support students beyond the classroom by securing practical training and job opportunities.

Ms. Elizabeth Quinlan from DA Hall Poultry said their company operates one of Australia’s largest poultry farms, housing 3.2 million birds and producing 2.2 million eggs daily. She said the company seeks energetic, honest, and hardworking individuals to meet its production demands.

DA Hall & Co, a family-owned agribusiness, provides employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers, offering career development, mentorship, and attractive pay.

The Labour Mobility Unit under PNG’s Department of Treasury facilitates overseas employment through government-to-government programs in Australia and New Zealand under the PALM and RSE schemes.
