Her educational odyssey led her to the hallowed halls of Kabiufa Adventist Secondary School in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, where she honed her academic prowess. Armed with determination, Joyce embarked on a journey of knowledge acquisition at Pacific Adventist University (PAU) in Port Moresby, delving into the intricacies of business studies.
The seeds of her passion for community development were sown early, as she ventured into her first job as an administrative assistant with an Australian Aid Program. It was here that she realized the profound impact of collective effort in shaping communities and fostering positive change.
Her professional trajectory soared as she became an instrumental part of the team that crafted the National Accreditation Standards for Community Development Workers (CDWs), laying the groundwork for empowering future generations of change agents.
Undeterred by challenges, Joyce embarked on a quest for higher learning, securing an Australian Awards Scholarship to pursue a Master of Arts in International Development at Flinders University, Australia. Armed with newfound knowledge and a steadfast resolve, she returned to Papua New Guinea, ready to embark on her next chapter.
Her tenure with the Baptist Union of PNG as the Health Care Manual Project Manager epitomized her unwavering dedication to improving healthcare delivery across the nation. Through her leadership, the third edition of the Health Care Manual became a beacon of knowledge for community health workers, heralding a new era of healthcare accessibility.
But it was in 2018, amidst uncertainty and prayer, that Joyce's journey took an unexpected turn. A call from PeopleConnexion opened doors to a new chapter with TotalEnergies, where her expertise in community development found fertile ground in the extractive industry.
As the Community Investment Coordinator for TotalEnergies EP PNG Limited, Joyce's days are imbued with purpose and fulfillment. From orchestrating infrastructure projects to forging partnerships with local governments, her efforts resonate deeply with the communities she serves.
Despite the challenges inherent in her work, Joyce's unwavering spirit remains undimmed. For her, the true measure of success lies not in accolades or achievements, but in the smiles of school children receiving new classrooms and the tangible impact on community livelihoods.
As she reflects on her journey, Joyce's heart brims with gratitude for the opportunity to make a difference. For her, community development isn't just a profession—it's a calling, a vocation that transcends boundaries and transforms lives.
In the quiet corners of Papua New Guinea, where dreams take flight and hope finds a home, Joyce Melepia's journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of passion and purpose. And as she continues to tread the path of service and sacrifice, her legacy of love and compassion will endure, a beacon of hope for generations to come.
