The Papua New Guinea (PNG) Department of ICT To Become A Critical Enabler of Economic Development Rather Than Being Just A Cost Center
The PNG Department of Information and Communications Technology, in a recent statement, said that the Department is working towards becoming a critical enabler of economic development in Papua New Guinea.
This comes in line with recent passing of the Digital Government Bill that will speed up the digitisation of all government processes.
"With the recent passing of the Digital Government Bill 2022, the PNG Department of Information and Communications Technology is in the process of positioning itself as a critical driver of economic growth rather than being just a cost center, as was the case in the past.
The Department is reported to have held a three days planning and restructuring workshop last week where senior management in each division presented their divisional achievements and challenges to pave way for the formulation of a Digital Government Plan where government, for the first time in history, will digitize all government services and create e-government platforms such as e-health, e-education, e-ID, e-policing, e-tourism and a whole lot more.
"The Department's aim is to help relevant government agencies to boost their inflow of revenue as well as help those agencies effectively and efficiently manage their outflow of funds using the latest ICT tools" the Department concluded.
