Vodafone is investing K3 billion in Papua New Guinea that will create opportunities for Papua New Guineans for growth, prosperity, job creation and affordability and accessibility of telecommunications, an official says.
According to the National Newspaper, the company has launched officially to begin its operation in the country. Vodafone's regional chief executive officer Pradeep Lal said the telco (telecommunications company) was rolling out a 3G/4G+ network and customers would experience much faster speeds and improved customer services.
“We have various other attractive and unparalleled daily, weekly and monthly bundles to suit every segment of the market.
“Our competitive pricing and product propositions are designed with low margin tariffs and high value benefits with overall value ranging from 30 per cent to 100 per cent when compared to competing offers in the market.”
Lal said introductory free sims, which would have preloaded value of 1GB data, unlimited on-net calls and SMS, valid for seven days would be available from any of Vodafone’s 15 retail outlets and kiosks and over 100 roadshow outlets.
“On the business front, we have numerous solutions designed to facilitate more reliable connectivity to drive improved business effectiveness, efficiencies and cost reductions,” he added.
“Along with value packed mobile and data bundles, shared and pay as you go plans, the suite of ICT products include wide area networking, dedicated internet, cloud PBX, SD WAN, disaster recovery and cyber security to name a few.”
He said Vodafone planned to bring a suite of value-added services that had been highly successful in its other markets that would help address the many pain points of PNG customers that could be addressed through the access and reach provided through mobile phones.
“Vodafone PNG is building a brand new green field network from the ground up and constructing all new towers.
“We initially had tower leasing and sharing discussions with both Digicel and Telikom/BeMobile, however no arrangements were reached, hence our decision to construct new towers. We are launching with just over 500 base stations, covering Port Moresby, Lae, Madang, Mt Hagen and Goroka and by Christmas, we intend to have 800 sites live, progressively expanding coverage to 22 provinces.”
